Introduction
Many years back, Lam Research embarked on a journey to set up engineering center in Bangalore to expand its reach to Indian talent pool. Over decade, this center expanded its capability and scope beyond engineering to global manufacturing, supply chain operations and other shared services. One of the major functional group of this entity is LIGHT (Lam India Global Hardware Technology). LIGHT has completed more than a decade of growth and has emerged as a major new product development and sustaining engineering team for Lam’s global engineering footprint.
The Group You’ll Be A Part Of
There is an opening for the role of Electrical Component Engineer Lead within the Component Engineering Group, Center of Excellence Group in LIGHT organization. This position will be based out of Bangalore, directly reporting to the Electrical Component Engineering Manager of LIGHT Component Engineering Group and closely working with the Engineering & Cross functional teams at Lam India and other regions.
What You’ll Do
- Identify and perform Electrical, Electronics and Electromechanical alternate/replacement parts qualification, testing and validation
- Should work with Cross Functional teams like Supply chain and Supplier Quality and product Engineering team for solving Component Shortage issues.
- Monitor, identify and resolve all component issues and assist various teams to identify appropriate resources and substitutes for components.
- Perform Alternate component search and provide a detailed Component comparison report and should be a self-decision maker on component attributes.
- Provides resolution to high complexity component shortage issues.
- Involve in all aspects of component engineering such as design support, Component Selection including technical analysis, reliability of component, and Component testing in the Lab.
- Support Design Engineering in identification and qualification of Electrical/Electromechanical components.
- Provide Sustaining Engineering support to Product groups across Lam.
- Provide inputs on component selection to new designs to improve product reliability by participating in design reviews and DFMEA.
- Interact with OEM & COTS (Commercial off the Shelf) suppliers for sourcing, alternate part identification, part & supplier qualification and costing of components.
- Liaise with Manufacturing and supply chain and work on Component related problem reports in solving and implementing.
- Collaborate with product group and cross functional team for alignment and clarification to replace the components in specific products.
- Own the completed component evaluation, guide team on component related specification issues in finding solutions
Who We’re Looking For
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical/ Electronic engineering with 10+ years of experience; or Master’s degree with 8+ years; or equivalent work experience.
- Understanding of detailed manufacturing process and end to end parameters of Electrical/ Electromechanical components such as Passive, Discrete, Integrated circuits, Connectors, Cables, Fuses, Relays, Switches, RF generators, Sensors, Adapters/Filters, Cable Assemblies and all other PCBA Components etc.
- Review and interpret all component data sheets and evaluate all components for various product applications.
- In depth system level understanding of Electrical architecture, system integration, and applications.
- Dealing with uncertainty during testing of alternate/replacement components.
- Knowledge of Electrical component parameters and it’s significant impact on product performance.
- Knowledgeable in CAD tools for circuit design and simulation (e.g., PCAD, ORCAD, ZUKEN E3S, AutoCAD, Spice, ADS, HFSS).
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of BOM Management tools like Silicon Expert and IHS
- Experience with PLM, Library management and Various Industry standards such RoHS, REACH, UL, CE, CSA, IPC, SEMI etc.
- Experience with documentation standards.
- Knowledge of schematic, PCB (Printed Circuit Board) development and mechanical component evaluation
- Familiarity with manufacturing and design environments
- Experience in troubleshooting with problem-solving techniques such as 5-why, 8D, fishbones, etc.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including technical presentations.
- Experience in semiconductor industry or related (industrial, automotive, military) will be an added advantage

Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
