The Impact You’ll Make

As a Mechanical Engineer at Lam, you're designing and defining cutting-edge mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Your role involves feasibility studies, testing, and guiding teams in detailed design and fabrication. You provide the crucial design information needed to shape our technology's packaging.

In this role, you will directly contribute to the design and development of sub-systems and assemblies used in Semi-conductor machines.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the full life cycle of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems from concept to productization including conceptualization, designing, CAD modeling, development, and testing / validation.
  • Lead design reviews, project reviews and participate in technical discussions.
  • Work with potential suppliers to ensure parts can be manufactured in accordance with performance and cost objectives.
  • Design components using variety of metals, plastics, and advanced coatings.
  • Select OEM components and materials.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with SEMI, Lam standards, and industry best practices for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Conduct detailed analysis including structural, finite element analysis (FEA), thermal, heat transfer, stress, and manufacturability to properly specify designs.
  • Develop and conduct feasibility studies and test plans to characterize and validate design performance.
  • Create and edit procedures for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and maintenance recommendation guide.
  • Provide support to engineering team and to field service for capital equipment at the Lam labs, factory and in the field.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and technical presentations to clearly communicate design intent, evaluation, and validation to a diverse audience in design reviews.
  • Collaborate with internal teams for procurement and assembly of components and equipment.

Who We’re Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 4+ years of experience; or an advanced degree with 2~3 years previous professional experience
  • Strong Product Development and Design experience in Mechanical domain
  • Proficient in 3D CAD tools such as Solid Edge or CREO or Siemens NX
  • Hands-on experimental and design background coupled with solid engineering skills
  • Knowledge of machining, welding, molding, sheet-metal fabrication & casting processes
  • Ability to work well in a team, in a fast-paced matrixed environment with aggressive deadlines and multiple priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal, and technical presentation skills
  • Proficiency in design of mechanical / electromechanical components, experience in Semiconductor industry is a plus
  • Experience in project management, or problem solving while managing time and multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in designing medium complex sheet metal structure and release of manufacturing drawings
  • Proficiency in Thermal hand calculations and basic simulations (Conduction, Convection, Heat dissipation and increase in temperature) to facilitate selection of heat sinks, Cooling systems like Fans etc.
  • Knowledge in Engineering Change Management Process, SAP, PLM, TCE
  • Knowledge and exposure to ANSI, ASME, SAE, ISO, SEMI standards applicable to semiconductor industry
