We primarily compete in four specific areas – deposition, etch, photoresist strip, and single wafer clean. In 2000, Lam Research embarked on a journey to set up an Engineering center in Bangalore to expand its reach to Indian talent pool. Over two decades, this center has expanded its capability and scope beyond Engineering and is organized into three major areas of responsibility: Hardware, Software, and Operations. One of the major functional groups of this entity is LIGO (Lam India Global Operations). Within LIGO, manufacturing engineering, cost performance engineering, supply chain and logistics, spares operations and planning, order fulfilment, inventory management, and supplier QA engineering functions work collaboratively to deliver best in class solutions for Lam’s global operations.

There is an opening for the role of a Group Manager – Manufacturing Engineering to lead fixture design activities for Lam Manufacturing sites. This position is based out of Bangalore, directly reporting to the leader of Manufacturing Engineering within LIGO. Individual shall collaborate with the Lam sites across US, Asia and Europe, providing leadership on fixture design and development for the Global Factory Network.

What You’ll Do

Primary Responsibilities:

As a leader of fixtures group, you will be accountable to deliver best in class fixture design solutions to Pilot and High-Volume Manufacturing sites. You will be leading and realizing results as per established Department Goals & Objectives

  • Define Goals & Objectives for the team based on business priorities and annual operating plan
  • Create and maintain long-term objectives in form of roadmap and vision in alignment with Global leadership
  • Responsible for management communication, PMD (Performance Management & Development), resource planning and allocation
  • Accountable for managing fixture life cycle at global factory network and be a point of escalation
  • Monitor department metrics and report out during operation reviews
  • Responsible to mentor and coach senior engineers and reporting managers
  • Manage high performance to drive Innovation and standardization of fixtures across global manufacturing sites
  • Stay closely connected with the management and position the organization to be a true extension of Global factories by successfully contributing to their priorities
  • Collaborate with LIGO Manufacturing Engineering and other functions to extract synergy, leverage talent and develop newer capabilities
  • Foster efficient and productive collaboration with global tooling and fixture teams
  • Engage with supply chain to ensure fixture designs can be manufactured with high-quality, optimized cost, and to requirements

In addition, you are expected to mentor, guide existing fixture designers to keep them motivated and engaged.

Who We’re Looking For

Eligibility Criteria:

Bachelor/master’s in production/industrial/manufacturing/mechanical engineering with a minimum of 15 years of experience in relevant industry. 4-6 years of supervisory experience is required.

Mandatory skills and experience required to perform the role:

  • Prior experience of minimum 4 years in performance management, hiring and assimilation, and development of engineers/managers with diversified experience
  • Excellent leadership skills in planning, strategy and innovation by owning group goals and department roadmap
  • Demonstrated expertise in automatic/semi-automatic/electromechanical fixtures for handling, testing and transportation of large products on the manufacturing floor
  • Possess strong structured problem-solving and decision-making skills. Demonstrated leadership in utilizing data to develop insights and drive actions to improve process adherence, quality and value.

Preferred Qualifications

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowhow of Semiconductor / Wafer fabrication equipment industry
  • Deep understanding of electromechanical fixtures including OEM component selection like leadscrews, LM guideways, motors, bearings, PLCs etc
  • Ability to estimate cost, drive cost reduction ideas and define validation requirements
  • Experience in assembling product in a manufacturing set-up

Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
