The Impact You’ll Make
As a Software Engineer at Lam, you will be at the forefront of innovation by designing, developing, and troubleshooting, and debugging software programs. Your role is pivotal in developing software tools that support design, infrastructure, and technology platforms. Your expertise will determine hardware compatibility and influence design, ensuring seamless integration between software and hardware.
In this role, you’ll make an impact across Lam’s entire product portfolio of equipment working within our centralized software engineering team, collaborating with some of the brightest minds in the industry.
Job Responsibilities
- Working on firmware requirements, specification, tests and verification
- Develop, Test, Qualify, and validate the firmware releases on the hardware solutions owned by the Control Systems group. Control versions and requirements specifications
- Develop and/or maintain firmware utilizing multiple IDEs including Code Composer Studio.
- Responsible for maintenance of install base by analyzing, debugging and fixing customer issues.
- Define and develop processor to processor data management and handoff.
- Responsibility of implementing and/or maintaining firmware for, microprocessor/microcontroller and DSP applications
- Work on implementing protocols like EtherCAT, LON, SPI, I2C and RS-232/485.
- Maintain test software for PC boards developed.
- Provide testing support for PC boards including bench testing and regression testing.
- Responsible for bootloaders, real time operating systems including device drivers and application.
- Work with hardware engineers on board bring up and board debugging.
- Creating custom OS images for Windows and Linux. Creation of recovery/bootable media for OS.
- Qualification of third-party EtherCAT devices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s/master’s degree in engineering (EE, EC, CS or related streams)
- 5+ years of experience in embedded firmware architecture and development of designs with analog and digital I/O capabilities, DSP and microcontrollers.
- Object oriented programming concepts. Real Time programming concepts. Working knowledge of at least one real time operating system
- Deep expertise in System Design including Embedded Firmware development, SW/HW/FW architecture partitioning.
- Experience in programming in C/C++ programming language
- Must be well versed in communications protocols (SPI, I2C & RS232)
- Working knowledge of various communication stacks (eq. TCP/IP, UDP/IP)
- Good knowledge of integration testing of hardware and firmware for Embedded Systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Analytical approach to root cause analysis.
- Understanding of communication protocols: EtherCAT and LON.
- Ability to develop bash scripts in Linux and powershell scripts for Windows.
- Knowledge of bootloaders like grub
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
