The AEPC division of Lam Research creates hardware and software to automate, control and optimize the performance of process equipment at the leading edge of the semiconductor industry.  Our 3D modeling software SEMulator3D is revolutionizing the way that semiconductor chips are fabricated around the world.  Enabled by our core intellectual property – an accelerated 3D voxel modeling and visualization engine – our software is highly successful and is evolving fast as our business and customer base expand rapidly.  

 

As a member of the computational products modeling team, you will build the core capabilities of the SEMulator3D modeling platform.  Working with our core modeling team, you will have the opportunity to research, evaluate and implement new etch modeling algorithms to enable better prediction of etch process behavior across a range of physics regimes.  This is a hands-on software development position, requiring proficiency in C++ and expertise in numerical methods and physical modeling.

Responsibilities:
•    Research, prototype and characterize numerical algorithms for feature-scale simulation of semiconductor etch processes 
•    Implement new numerical modeling algorithms for feature-scale etch simulation in C++, using and extending existing modeling infrastructure and APIs
•    Participate in general software engineering tasks, including verification, testing, bug fixing and maintenance of existing code
•    Collaborate with teams in Paris, Boston and Fremont to solve diverse etch modeling needs

 

Required Qualifications (all of the following):
•    Minimum of PhD in a relevant field, with three years of professional experience
•    Direct experience implementing computational physics algorithms in three dimensions
•    Strong knowledge of basic numerical methods (FVM, FDM, monte-carlo, etc)
•    Strong C++ coding skills, including use of standard template library
•    Strong math skills, including a thorough knowledge of calculus and linear algebra
•    Strong technical communication and inter-personal skills

 

Desirable Qualifications (any of the following):
•    Any semiconductor industry experience
•    Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing process, particularly plasma-based etching
•    Experience with cross-platform development on Windows and Linux
•    Experience with one or more of: Boost, C++11 or later, Python
•    Experience in implementing or maintaining template-based C++ APIs
