Director, Product and Process Development (Concept & Feasibility)

Job Responsibilities

Lam Research is looking for a Director of Product and Process Development for our Concept & Feasibility group in Fremont, CA.  This role will be responsible for leading the C&F team, reporting directly to the division Vice President and GM. 

The position will mainly be responsible in identifying future technology and application trends in semiconductor manufacturing based on industry and customer roadmaps, generating internal roadmaps and ideas to align Lam’s technology with those of the industry and customers, assess and execute on screening the ideas, and successfully implement C&F exit for products and technologies that satisfy the requirements of the applications as in the roadmaps. 

The successful candidate must have deep understanding of a wide breadth of disciplines utilized in development of semiconductor manufacturing tools: thin film processing (deposition and etch), material sciences, device integration and physics, system level equipment engineering.  The candidate must be capable of understanding and articulating how to provide solutions to address challenging scaling and patterning problems of both current and future technologies in the industry. The candidate will need to establish a collaborative relationship with multiple groups within the division and at greater Lam technical community which include hardware and process engineering, customer interface and business development groups, and program and product management among others.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Defining technology roadmaps for the division
  • Leading the C&F team in defining and developing new applications and technologies that enable the roadmap
  • Executing successful C&F exits, defining the initial alpha-stage requirements for core product and process development groups
  • Strategic and annual planning of C&F activities (including people and budgetary resourcing) and presenting those plans to the division management as well as Lam executives

Other Job Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years semiconductor industry experience in product and process development of next generation tools and applications
  • Knowledge of ALD /CVD deposition of materials (metals or dielectrics)
  • Senior management level experience
  • Direct experience working with customers and account teams on successful product penetrations
  • The successful candidate must have deep understanding of a wide breadth of disciplines utilized in development of semiconductor manufacturing tools: thin film processing (deposition and etch), material sciences, device integration and physics, system level equipment engineering. 
  • You must be capable of understanding and articulating how to provide solutions to address challenging scaling and patterning problems of both current and future technologies in the industry.
  • Establish a collaborative relationship with multiple groups within the division and at greater Lam technical community which include hardware and process engineering, customer interface and business development groups, and program and product management among others.
  • Strong background in process and product development
  • In-depth knowledge of thin film deposition techniques in semiconductor manufacturing
  • Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong verbal and written communications, proactive decision making and team building within a diverse group including product group, customer, account teams.
  • Mininum: Masters degree in physics (plasma or device physics preferred), or chemical engineering, or chemistry, or electrical engineering, or materials sciences, or mechanical engineering, or in equivalent disciplines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of device physics and integration is a big plus
