Embedded Firmware Engineer

Embedded Software/Firmware role with broad system level design experience to help design and implement Embedded Solutions used in semiconductor plasma etchers.

Responsibilities include collaborating with systems, software, electrical, mechanical, and semiconductor process engineers to architect and design the applicable embedded solutions.

Must own and drive requirements, design, and implementation of Embedded solutions.

Must influence the complete solution including hardware design, FPGA, FW and appropriate algorithms.

Deep expertise in Embedded Firmware development, SW/HW/FPGA/FW architecture partitioning.

Interface, operation and control of peripheral devices such as:  RTD’s, thermocouples, electric actuators, stepper motors, heaters, pressure sensors, pressure controllers, flow controllers.

Knowledge of digital signal processing: FFT, FIR, IIR. Must be well versed in communications protocols (SPI, I2C, EtherCAT, Ethernet, RS232), analog circuit design and analysis, schematic design, Strong PCB design skills including signal integrity, Orcad, Pspice, proper grounding techniques, EMI/EMC design and mitigation; as well as analysis/simulation tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, LabView.


Typical 12+ years of experience in embedded system architecture and design with multiple analog and digital I/O capabilities, FPGA, DSP & microcontroller based products.

Advanced Degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.

Expert in C/C++, RTOS (QNX preferred), Xilinx Zynq.

Must have experience working on QNX and developing board support packages (BSPs) for custom hardware. Should have written resource managers and devctls in QNX.

Deep expertise in Embedded Firmware development, SW/HW/FPGA/FW architecture partitioning.

Should have owned embedded solutions used in industrial applications, architected the SDLC processes used in development, and setup test automation infrastructure to enable release management.

Must be skilled in experimental prototyping test and measurement.

The position requires excellent soft skills to be part of a cross functional team, excellent written & oral communication and presentation skills.
