Cost Engineer- Pilot Operations

The Cost Engineer is a key member in the new product introduction (NPI) activities for Lam, who will help shape and influence design via improvements to reduce manufacturing cost from initial concept and throughout the product lifecycle. You will have high visibility to company leaders, and help cross functional teams drive cost reduction decisions during the product development and release process (PDR).

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Understand the manufacturing landscape, capabilities, limitations, and technologies available (and emerging) to produce parts for the high-tech sector. Have a pulse on how things are made and how they will be made in the future
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, design engineers, suppliers, supplier engineers and supply-chain managers to improve system/part cost, should-cost models, RFQ analysis, and cost negotiations
  • Evaluate current and new designs, estimate their should-cost as well as identify cost drivers, and compare to current cost as well as vendor quotes for their accuracy. Identify gaps to improve should costing assessments and to help cost reduction negotiations

 

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with applications: NX CAD and/or ProE Creo, Solid Works, Inventor, etc. and any cost estimating software such as aPriori
  • Working knowledge of metal machining, sheet metal and weldment making tools, Programming and machining processes and secondary operations
  • Experience estimating the cost of a given design of a fabricated part
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion under tight deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

 

Qualifications

  • Must have:
  • Five plus years’ experience working within a manufacturing environment where manufacturing was a core competency
  • Solid analytical and written/oral communication skills with ability to communicate cross-functionally and with various levels of an organization
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Experience working in the semiconductor or like industry 

 

Preferred:

  • Technical expertise - engineering/science background
  • Project Management / Team Lead experience
  • Experience working with global suppliers

 

Education:

  • While not necessary, a Bachelor’s degree from accredited University is a plus
