Engineering Technician

  • Performs technically challenging functions such as assembling, testing, modifying, and troubleshooting of complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Tests, analyzes, and prepares detailed summary reports on qualification of new sub-systems that include, but not limited to, RF, vacuum, power distribution (AC & DC), and control systems.
  • Tests and troubleshoots system and component level problems on electrical sub-systems which include PCB’s, PLC’s, distributed I/O systems, and discrete sensors.
  • Some assignments may have limited documentation.  Must be comfortable documenting, assembling, and testing prototype electro-mechanical subsystems.  Constructive feedback must be provided on design, product improvement, or serviceability.
  • Uses innovation and creativity to solve time-critical problems.  Must be adept at quick turn, in-house manufacturing of cable assemblies, assembling of PCBs, modifying sheet metal and other mechanical parts.
  • Writes detailed step by step procedures on sub-system installation, un-installation, and upgrades.
  • Works and effectively communicates with cross functional teams which include software engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing, and lab support.
  • Sets up, and analyzes reliability and lifetime data gathered on data acquisition system such as National Instruments.
  • Provides training and guidance to entry level engineers and technicians.

     Education and Experience 

  • Associate Degree or equivalent experience
  • 5 + years of experience
  • Excellent communication, writing, and organization skills
  • Excellent electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with semiconductor equipment strongly desired
  • Previous experience working with vacuum and RF systems preferred
  • Familiarity with software programming desired, but not necessary
  • Strong computer skills – Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.
  • CAD knowledge desired, but not necessary (Mechanical and or Electrical packages such as NX, UG, Solidworks, PCAD, etc.)
  • Very strong soldering and PCB assembly skills required
  • Comfortable using common power tools such as drills, Dremel, hacksaw, grinders, etc.
  • Familiar with electronic test equipment such as DVM, Oscilloscope, Frequency Generators, etc.
