Short Description

This position is in the Global Engineering team for an Engineering Manager in the Etch H/W Engineering Group in Fremont location

Responsibilities include a combination of the following: Hardware Development: Directs, leads, and manages the technical activities of a hardware development function for electronic design, mechanical design and/or hardware reliability and system design of integrated hardware/software systems design function.

Job Responsibilities

As a manager of this team, you will be:

  • Managing a mechanical engineering and H/W integration & testing team involved in development, design, testing and release activities of next-generation semiconductor process equipment
  • Responsible for the research, design, development, modification, and evaluation of our product’s control system, its control signal and power distribution system as well as the design, development, modification, and evaluation of subsystems consisting of electrical, electro-mechanical, and electronic systems, down to the discrete component selection level
  • Determining and leading design approaches and analyze equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests, and evaluate results
  • Successfully managing engineering resource assignments, priorities, and deadlines
  • Lead and manage an interdisciplinary team of engineers at Lam in performing H/W Design, testing, prototyping and Product Development activities
  • Assume responsibility for all department functions including: Hiring, Developing, Retaining Talent, Coordination with Cross Functional Teams, Management communications, Understanding and translating internal customer requirements effectively and efficiently into work assignments, adhering to Engineering Excellence, Quality and Timeliness of deliverables from Design engineering team

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Determine design approaches and parameters. Lead design review discussions, Mentor and guides team members in engineering reviews and enable data driven decisions on H/W design and Product engineering.
  • Own Mechanical Engineering technical disciplines with primary focus on design, development, modification, testing and evaluation of complex mechanical and or electrical hardware systems.
  • Maintain and develop process checkpoints to ensure adherence to design standards and schedules. Work with leadership peers to drive process improvements as necessary.
  • Effectively works in matrix organization by aligning with local and global stakeholders without compromising on “Quality, Delivery & Cost (QDC)” aspects in meeting multiple engineering program objectives
  • Collaborate with regional and global Mechanical & Electrical Engineering teams and managers of different Lam Product Groups to achieve the business objectives and results.
  • Work with management & leadership teams in contributing to aligned product release roadmap in consistent with Lam vision, strategies & product release roadmap
  • Liaison with Fremont Product & Program Managers, System Engineers in effective scoping, launching and managing engineering projects

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 6-8 years of supervisory experience.
  • Min. of 10+ years of product development experience with capital equipment or similar industries comprising electro-mechanical systems of high complexity
  • Demonstrated leadership skill in decision making and problem-solving pertaining to engineering problems in absence of complete or accurate data.
  • Skilled in managing interdisciplinary engineering department by managing teams for min. 4-6 years on tasks, projects, or programs by being well versed in Mechanical Engineering & awareness of Electro-Mechanical systems
  • Excellent leadership skills (dept. planning, capability planning, strategizing, innovation), & must have managed team of 10-15 mechanical engineers by owning dept goals, PMD (Performance Management & Development) & roadmap.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Contributions to customer escalations / field problems including trouble shooting, containment actions, failure analysis report & corrective actions.
  • System engineering skills, and knowledge/skills related to Electrical & Electronics
  • Contributions to IP through innovation
  • Exposure and working knowledge of Team center and NX tools, SAP PLM release process, product structure and configurations
  • Knowledge in Engineering Change Management Process, Project Management tools (MS Project’) & Exposure to Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) concepts would be an advantage
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skill in absence of complete or accurate data. Planning (concept and feasibility studies), Requirements, Design, Value engineering, Design Reviews, Design for Testing/ Manufacturability/Assembly/Service, Testing and Troubleshooting, Integrating, Cross Functional Interaction etc and Prototype to Production Release
  • Functional and technical design experience in critical mechanical systems and sub-systems. Experience in conducting design reviews, seeking approval in collaboration with global stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate succinctly and in-depth in both verbal and written and ability to influence, interact effectively with peers and senior management personnel
