Lam Research is looking to hire an experienced, strategically-focused Indirect Materials and Services (IMS) Materials Manager who will direct the efforts of several Supply Business Managers (SBM) for our growing Indirect Purchasing Team.  This is a hands-on position requires experience in supervising a small group of SBM’s and negotiating a small number of general Indirect Commodities as well.   Looking for experience in Indirect Commodities, typically needed for Large Companies, in some or many of the following Spending areas:   Construction Services, Capital Equipment, HR Benefits, Info Technology and software, Gases and Chemicals, Freight and Logistics, Business process outsourcing, Consultant Services, etc.   

 

Job Description:   will be responsible to monitor, coach and lead SBM’s as they negotiate new agreements for indirect materials and services for our internal customers.  Will also handle a small portfolio of negotiations for the company.  Manager will define measures of success for negotiations, working closely in partnership with internal customers and their executives, to provide highest value agreements for Lam.  Works closely with Tactical IMS Materials Manager, who manages the daily efforts of buyers and others doing transactional activities (placing and expediting purchase orders, assembling metrics and assisting SBM’s in monitoring metrics important to Lam’s internal customers). 

 

Primary Functions and Performance Objectives

  • Develops standardized processes around the acquisition of Indirect materials and services needed by internal customers.  Reports to Global Supply Chain Director
  • Tracks negotiations performance to internal customers’ requirements in areas of Service Level, Pricing, Value, and Risk for all new deals negotiated by this Manager or his/her subordinates.  
  • Develops standardized Business Continuity Plans for Key & Critical Indirect Commodities
  • Develops standardized resolution and closure actions for performance escalations
  • Coordinates use of Outside Consultants to work on highly complex commodity negotiations with Lam Internal Customers
  • Mentors and coaches SBM team members to enable them to provide excellent customer service and build customer trust through solid execution of negotiations, resolution of problems, and partnership with Internal Customers  
  • May represent IMS team on cross-functional commodity teams (CT) or in other Continuous Improvement Projects (CIP), as assigned by supervisor, that focus on the strategic or operational challenges of Lam Internal Customers
  • Position is measured quantitatively (on basis of cost or value creation vs. existing baselines) and qualitatively (based on feedback of internal customers)
  • Maintains current knowledge on relevant trends by personal contact, industry reports, trade journals, etc.

 

  • Requirements:  Excellent analytical and written/oral communication & presentation skills with ability to communicate cross-functionally and with various levels of the organization including Executives.  Requires Multiple years of Indirect Commodity management experience and supervision experience, preferably with large companies (>$3B in yearly revenue).   College Degree in Business or a Technical Field of Study required.   Also requires some experience in coordinating the efforts of Outside Consultants in working with Internal Customers on Indirect Negotiations.   MBA and Institute for Supply Management certification is a plus.
