Job Responsibilities

A Product Engineer 3 will own technical and professional support to projects emphasizing new and unreleased products while assisting more senior engineers in research and product development.

• Take ownership of assigned tasks and projects, assuring proper release and hand-off of solutions

• Acquire and apply basic engineering theories, methods and research techniques in the investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution of technical problems

• Design and conduct experiments and tests pertaining to the resolution to complex technical problems

• Generate clear and concise reports to justify your technical recommendations

• Act as liaison for cross functional projects across organizations

• Implement industry standard process control techniques such as six sigma/lean manufacturing and value stream mapping to manage and develop production efficiencies

Other Job Responsibilities

Manages new product introduction and production support engineering for a specific product or group of products after transfer from design to in-house or outsourced production. Interfaces with design, process, test, reliability and manufacturing engineering to solve product issues and production problems. Develops and sustains process improvements to reduce production costs and increase yields.

Develops new or modified hardware designs for electrostatic chucks (ESC’s) and supporting hardware in Lam plasma etchers.  Reviews process and customer requirements to define engineering specifications for ESC’s and ESC subsystems.  Defines testing requirements for production-readiness qualification, reviews and defines process of record (POR) at parts suppliers, assesses suitability of materials used in production, and supports field issues related to this hardware. Handles full ESC life cycle from development, through product release and field support. Coordinates design reviews, risk assessments, and POR reviews with Lam engineering personnel to ensure successful product release and follow Lam product design business processes. Compiles and evaluates test data to determine appropriate hardware limitations and assesses risk of field failure according to customer process conditions.

Recently, Lam etch customers have increased requirements on defectivity, process window, and uniformity, to meet the needs of ever shrinking device dimensions. Electrostatic chucks are at the forefront of these needs, as thermal uniformity, voltage process window, and to a large extent, defectivity limits are defined by this piece of hardware. Lam is continually improving ESC performance in all of these areas to meet customer needs. Understanding performance of this particular part of Lam plasma etchers requires a multidisciplinary background, incorporating elements of materials science, physics, mechanical and electrical engineering, to fully understand the implications of design changes on customer processing.

Minimum Qualification

• Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience

• Creative thinking, strong problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities

Ability to complete projects and learn the required skills with minimal guidance • Solid understanding of statistical process control and basic statistical analysis used in production setting

• Previous experience in individual project management

• Comfortable with travelling

• Prior experience with MS office tools (ppt, excel, project), statistical tools (JMP, Minitab etc.)

Preferred Qualification

• Creative thinking and strong problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities, including experience in the areas of mechanical engineering and chemical engineering

• Previous experience in project management
