Sr. Product Engineer

Job Description




Product Engineer to support Sheet Metal/Frame supplier development

Essential Functions and Duties

This position is part of the Supplier Materials & Technology (SMT) organization.  SMT is an organization that is innovative in manufacturing technology, materials and supply chain design.  In this position, you, as a supplier engineer, will play a vital role with Sheet Metal and Frame Fabrication supplier development.  You will have the opportunity to work across organization functions to resolve technical, quality and production challenges, as well as opportunity to develop excellence in product design and manufacturing throughout the supply chain.

Candidate should be a result-driven, self-starter possessing strong interpersonal skills with a strong focus on supporting customers.  This individual should also possess the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, to adapt to changing priorities and to work independently in a close-knit team setting.


Job Details:

  • Provide expertise in manufacturing processes for metal components (CNC Fabrication, SST, CRS and Aluminum welding, painting, etc)
  • Work with Lam Product Group Engineering organizations and provide Design-for-Manufacturing inputs on manufacturing components
  • Work with suppliers to develop manufacturing processes in order to produce reliable products in a repeatable manner; also, develop and audit quality control systems.
  • Coordinates development activities with suppliers and product groups in developing products to meet product groups' needs.
  • Interface with design engineering to understand performance requirements and set up processes with suppliers to ensure requirements are met and quality is maintained.
  • Take lead in problem solving activities and drive root cause and corrective actions with suppliers.
  • Discover and review new fabrication technologies and new materials for application to Lam’s products to enable new capabilities, reduce variation in manufacturing, or improve product performance.
  • Coordinate and support investigation of key quality defects of components from the customers and/or field service team to drive corrective actions and continuous improvement 
  • Drive the improvement of the suppliers’ quality and manufacturing processes to ensure product quality, cost, and on-time-delivery
  • Audit and document supply base performance on critical process of records and overall quality management systems
  • Collaborate on the continuous development of supply base through close teamwork with product management, global product group, and supplier business managers
  • Leads, and is personally accountable for, high profile project timelines and milestones.
  • Continuously working on process improvement and developing Best Known Methods
  • Perform Standardized Supplier Quality Audits and administer Supplier Quality Scorecard for existing suppliers to promote continuous improvement.
  • Drive Root Cause and Corrective Action Analysis on QDRs and Escalations



Must have

  • Creative thinking and strong problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities, including experience in the areas of mechanical and chemical engineering
  • Solid understanding of GD&T, metallurgy, Powder coat techniques, welding techniques
  • Solid understanding of statistical process control and basic statistical analysis used in production setting
  • Solid understanding of equipment and component manufacturing processes
  • Experience in supplier process development & quality management
  • Understanding of failure analysis and problem solving
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly with minimal guidance
  • International & domestic travelling



  • Solid understanding of various problem solving methodologies to include 8-D/5 why
  • Project Management / Team Lead experience
  • At least 5 to 10 years of experience in Sheet Metal and frame fabrication
  • Experience with working with global suppliers
  • Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Attentions to details



  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year College or University; or 5 to 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience should include solid understanding of metal fabrication and welding.
