Basic Skills and Environment
–A Product Manager’s focus is 100% on the Product.  They are the leader for all groups to align priorities, define objectives, drive decisions to meet product development needs, market objectives, and released product support requirements.
– The ideal candidate will have sound judgement and decision making capability, an inquisitive nature, demonstrated capacity to provide structure and guidance in a chaotic environment and the ability to work effectively across multiple organizations and levels of management.  They must have the confidence and background to lead a team of highly technical and competent individuals.  They must be able to understand and mentor the role of product manager to less experienced peers
Consolidator of Product Roadmap / Strategy / Vision
– Collect & distill market / customer needs and Lam business objectives input from across organization leadership (Technology, Engineering, Product Support, Marketing, etc.) to define product roadmap and strategy.
Leaders of Product Strategy / Vision Communication
– Vision statement author, accountable for documenting business objectives and product requirements that form the basis for development / improvement programs, maintain living document under revision control throughout development & release process
– Drive vision into projects / programs supporting program/project manager in achieving project goals
– Roadmap: facilitate roundtable review of market, technology, and competitive trends leading to revision of product strategy / roadmap and organizational priorities
– Define implementation strategy for product enhancements, improvements and fixes. Communicate via Plan of Record (POR) to the development, operations, and customer accounts.
– Ensures that key product decisions adhere to the PS&DM Process.

 

Driver of Product Development and Release Execution
– Champion utilization of the PDR process, drive the program/project team to address PDR requirements, product design/development trade-offs and associated risk decisions. Drive release of the product into Lean Manufacturing, Customer Service and the Order Fulfillment process.

 

– Responsible for:
– Accountable for Release of a whole product

 

– meets performance targets, available in manufacturing with predictable lead-time and cost, is supportable in the field with documentation, training and material

 

– Define the product offered for sale, captured within the Product Option Architecture (POA) and associated change management process, communicate with internal organizations the product offering for sale and associated list pricing

 

– Manage unreleased products; capture and communicate early forecast and fielding plans in the Unreleased Build Plan process with Pilot Ops, Business Development and Spares, manage/coordinate financial and operations approvals to meet field testing, early customer demands, monitor and approve shipment of experimental/pre-released material to customers for enhancement/fixes, monitor and approve financial exposure of unreleased material in worldwide spares inventory.

 

Operational leader to sustain & support products
– EPL – stakeholder of the Program Priority List of programs/projects to focus resources in line with organizational objectives for owned products
– E/OCOGS – define & manage financial reserve fund requirements to support implementation of enhancements/improvements to issues in the field, define and manage reserves maintained to achieve specific business objectives in the field. Coordinate and monitor CSBG execution of mandatory retrofit and supplier quality excursion recovery programs
– ECR/ECN & NSRs– Review and disposition the business case for requests for product enhancement / change, change notices and customer requests for functionality not currently available, provide supporting rationale and alternatives to justify decisions and determine pricing.  Release priority of customer requested NSRs.
– Communicate across Lam and with accounts/customer known issues, impact to ongoing operations / production and Lam’s plan/approach to resolve/mitigate. Lead CFTs during product issue resolution periods, coordinating Operations, Development and Customer production impacts when scarce resources are available. Lead safety issue CFTs in development of Safety Alert and fielding plans
– Analysis and recommendation of financial reserves and disposition of unreleased material inventory in engineering, operations and spares locations
