The Product Manager represents the Product across all organizational boundaries, acting as the conductor leading other groups and organizations in order to: define objectives and success criteria, align program priorities, drive decision making through proper use of Lam’s Problem Solving and Decision Making (PS&DM) process, allocate resources required to meet product development needs and market objectives, and support released products. The ideal candidate will have the confidence and background to lead a team of highly technical and competent individuals, sound decision making ability, an inquisitive nature, demonstrated capability to provide clarity and guidance in a chaotic environment, and the ability to work effectively across multiple organizations and levels of management.



  • Consolidator of Product Roadmap / Strategy / Vision
  • Collect & distill market / customer needs and Lam business objectives input from across organization leadership (Technology, Engineering, Product Support, Marketing, etc.) to define product roadmap and strategy.
  • Facilitate roundtable reviews of market, technology, and competitive trends leading to revisions of product strategy / roadmap and organizational priorities.
  • Vision statement author, accountable for documenting business objectives and product requirements that form the basis for development / improvement programs, maintaining the living document under revision control throughout Product Development & Release process.
  • Leaders of Product Strategy / Vision Communication
  • Drive vision objectives into programs, supporting the program/project manager in achieving project goals
  • Define implementation strategy for product enhancements, new options, and fixes.
  • Communicate via Plan of Record (POR) to the development team, operations, and customer accounts to align implementation of product changes.
  • Drivers of Product Development and Release (PDR) Execution
  • Champion proper utilization of the PDR process, drive the program/project team to address PDR requirements, design/development trade-offs, and associated risk decisions. Drive release of new products into Lean Manufacturing, Customer Support and the Order Fulfillment processes.
  • Accountable for release of a Whole Product that meets performance targets, is available in manufacturing with predictable leadtime and cost, is supportable in the field with proper documentation and training, and has an aligned roadmap.
  • Define the product offered for sale, as outlined within the Product Option Architecture (POA) system and associated change management processes; communicate with internal organizations the product offering for sale and associated list pricing.
  • Manage unreleased products: capture and communicate early forecasts and shipment plans in the Unreleased Build Plan Process (URBP), aligned with Pilot Operations, Business Development and Spares organizations; manage/coordinate financial and operations approvals to meet best testing, early customer demands, and approve shipment of experimental/pre-released material to customers for enhancement/fixes; monitor and approve financial exposure of unreleased material in worldwide spares inventory.
  • Operational leader to sustain & support products
  • Manage the Engineering Priority List (EPL) of programs/projects to focus resources in line with organizational objectives.
  • Define & manage financial reserve fund requirements to support implementation of enhancements/improvements to issues in the field; define and manage reserves maintained to achieve specific business objectives in the field. Coordinate and monitor CSBG execution of mandatory retrofit and supplier quality excursion recovery programs.
  • Review and disposition the business case of requests for product enhancement / change, change notices, and customer requests for functionality not currently available; provide supporting rationale and alternatives to justify decisions and determine pricing.
  • Communicate across Lam and with customer known product issues, the impact to ongoing operations/production and Lam’s plan to resolve. Lead CFTs during product issue resolution periods, coordinating Lam operations and development groups, to mitigate the customer production impacts when scarce resources are available. Lead Safety issue CFTs in development of Safety Alert and implementation plans.
  • Analyze and make recommendation of financial reserves and disposition of unreleased material inventory in engineering, operations and spares locations



  • BS in engineering disciplines, higher level education or MBA a plu
  • 10 + years applicable experience
  • Previous experience in the semiconductor capital equipment industry and supervisory or management experience preferred
