Position Summary - Senior Director, Corporate Development:


The Corporate Development team is focused on developing a broad, strategic vision for Lam, identifying and evaluating new growth initiatives, and supporting business units in the strategic alliances and transactions areas.  The group reports to the CEO of Lam and is responsible for M&A, strategic alliances, equity investments, and licensing.


Reporting to the VP, Corporate Development, the Senior Director will both lead project teams and individually execute projects spanning  pipeline development to executing strategic investments (including M&A, joint ventures, etc.), in close partnership with the VP, executive team, and senior staff. With direct access to senior executives, this individual will lead highly visible strategic projects that will have a significant impact on the direction and performance of the company.


The ideal candidate would be familiar with leading strategy and management frameworks, financial analysis, and/or business architecture with a proven track record of successful M&A, business strategy development, strategic partnerships, and change management by influence. A deep understanding of the genomics ecosystem, with a broader life sciences industry background is highly preferred. The role will require strong teamwork and partnership with multiple stakeholders across Lam and outside partners, and success will come to those able to gain the trust and confidence of stakeholders, and who demonstrate Lam’s Core Values. He/she will require broad strategic thinking abilities and excellent business acumen, coupled with excellent leadership skills to navigate in a matrixed environment suited to a high performance leadership culture. This is an excellent opportunity in a senior role within the Corporate Development function for one of the leading global technology companies in the Fortune 500.


Key Qualifications :


  • 8+ years of experience in senior roles with significant strategic transaction, business development, and/or strategic-level marketing impact
  • A broad understanding of the life sciences industry and key players in its underlying ecosystem. Ideally experience within the genomics segment of the industry
  • Skilled at analyzing problems and arriving at clear decisions; able to distill information, gain clarity of ideas, synthesize, and then define next steps for execution
  • Bright individual, with ability to combine logic, creativity, and judgment; quick study, able to handle complex matters with multiple initiatives; able to deal effectively with strategic issues, as well as operational details
  • Energetic and resourceful, with strong service orientation and positive can-do attitude; fully committed to the job and to deliver outstanding work; never satisfied with status quo, continually striving for excellence
  • Ability to organize, lead, and motivate ad hoc teams to drive toward completion of high-quality deliverables
  • Maturity and executive presence and ability to navigate and develop relationships at all levels in the organization
  • Very strong written and oral communicator with proven ability to think conceptually and pragmatically; capable of communicating with senior executives and becoming a trusted advisor on research and strategic issues
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership qualities; ability to collaborate effectively using broad range of influence styles to drive desired results; works well with others and is considered a true team player
  • Very strong project, process, and organizational skills; able to effectively juggle multiple projects/assignments at one time and deliver high-quality results in timely fashion
  • Proactive work style and ability to work independently and manage cross-functional activities with limited oversight; comfortable working in and bringing structure to ambiguous environments
  • Commitment to the highest standards of honesty and integrity
  • Bachelor degree in a technical field required, an advanced degree (e.g., MBA or other masters) from a well-regarded institution is preferred. Specialization in Strategy, Finance, Operations, Marketing or Technology
