Position Overview


This position provides global, cross-functional expertise, guidance, support and governance relative to key Corporate product safety, regulatory and compliance requirements and business processes to ensure Lam products are safe, compliant and conform to customer requirements.


The qualified candidate will apply their product safety, electrical and mechanical engineering expertise and knowledge of EMC regulations/testing to help ensure Lam semiconductor manufacturing equipment products are designed and conform with applicable regulatory and Lam requirements world-wide.




  • Ensure Lam achieves and maintains an effective product compliance posture to prevent and/or resolve product impacts/delays to the customer while minimizing business risk to Lam
  • Provide expert product safety technical guidance and serve as the technical resource in your area(s) of expertise
  • Assist in the development of product safety and product stewardship strategies incorporating best industry practices to ensure customer confidence in the safety/compliance of Lam products
  • Collaborate globally and work cross-functionally with other organizations to develop and provide effective processes, procedures and methods to ensure that Lam product groups can sustain product compliance
  • Maintain knowledge and application of the regulations, standards, requirements and certifications that apply to Lam products
  • Review and/or conduct hazard/risk assessments and process hazard assessments (PHAs) relative to proposed, existing or modified product designs
  • Review, conduct or participate in investigations and root cause analysis of product safety-related events
  • Monitor, interpret and report status on existing and emerging global requirements with potential to impact Lam products, effectively communicate those product safety and regulatory impacts within Lam and assist in the development and implementation of new and/or modified strategies and business processes to address new requirements
  • Establish, document, implement and maintain Lam’s regulatory compliance processes to ensure alignment with regulatory standards and internal requirements; Assist in the development, review and maintenance of PESC policies, procedures, SOPs and workflows
  • Monitor and perform periodic reviews/audits on selected business processes and products to ensure on-going effectiveness and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Lead and/or participate in the development and delivery of awareness training and guidance to Lam product design teams, compliance stakeholders and management concerning interpretation, understanding and complying with regulations/ requirements
  • Establish, monitor and report relevant metrics/KPI’s
  • Prepare written reports, exposure/hazard/risk assessments, and white papers  
  • Develop and execute projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations to achieve required results
  • Communicate and represent Lam positions to Lam management, customers and outside industry trade groups/organizations




  • Comprehensive understanding and application of the principles and practices of product safety to high-tech industrial equipment
  • Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering practices and principles
  • Working knowledge of EMC regulations and test methodologies applicable to electronic and capital equipment
  • Awareness of and basic understanding of chemical systems, fluid and gas delivery, chemical safety, global chemical restriction and chemical control laws, Industrial Hygiene
  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot complex technical and regulatory problems, consult with relevant stakeholders, and propose practical solutions
  • Knowledge of industry standards/regulations that impact semiconductor equipment products: SEMI “S” standards S2, S8, S9, S10, S13, S14, S18, S22, S23, F15, F47 etc.; NFPA 70 & 79;  Equipment Field Labeling requirements; CE Marking directives - EU Machinery, Low Voltage, EMC, Pressure Equipment, ATEX and RoHS Directives;  IEC/EN/UL Standards e.g. IEC 60204, EN292, UL61010A, etc.; Product-related laser standards & requirements – ANSI Z136, FDA-CDRH & IEC 60825; EU & country

    specific chemical, REACH, RoHS, WEEE, GHS, & HazCom regulations; TSCA, Prop65

  • Some familiarity with concepts and business processes related to product development, process hazard assessment, engineering design changes, field event reporting, document change control, design review and evaluation processes, risk assignment and management, in a high-tech, large equipment, manufacturing environment - preferably the semiconductor industry
  • Ability to apply hazard/risk analysis, to identify compliance deficiencies, opportunities to improve product safety and/or quality; effectively document, communicate and track results to resolution
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills; exercises sound judgement in applying these skills
  • Ability to work/communicate effectively with scientists, engineers, technical specialists, and management, cross functionally, in a multi-disciplinary, global environment; Comfortable interacting with regulators, outside agencies, industry trade groups/associations, and customers as required
  • Strong collaborative, organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent written/verbal/communication and presentation skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Expertise with databases and spreadsheets; working knowledge of SharePoint; SAP experience a plus.
  • Occasional early morning/evening or weekend work may be required to support global operations
  • 5-10% travel may be required, domestic and/or international




  • B.S. degree in Science or Engineering disciplines (electrical, mechanical, chemical)
  • 10-15 years product safety experience with a minimum of 7 years in the semiconductor 

    capital equipment industry

  • M.S. degree or related level of experience preferred
  • Professional certifications a plus, e.g. CSP, CIH, PE
