Lam is looking for a Staff level Embedded Firmware Engineer with broad system level design experience to help design and implement Embedded Solutions used in semiconductor plasma etchers.



  • Collaborating with process, systems, software, electrical and mechanical engineers to architect and design the applicable embedded solutions.
  • Must own and drive requirements, design, and implementation of Embedded solutions.
  • Must influence the complete solution including hardware design, FPGA, FW and appropriate algorithms.
  • A/D, D/A, DSP, FPGA: Xilinx Zynq, & Microchip PIC embedded microcontrollers.
  • Deep expertise in Embedded Firmware development, SW/HW/FPGA/FW architecture partitioning.
  • Interface, operation and control of peripheral devices such as:  RTD’s, thermocouples, electric actuators, stepper motors, heaters, pressure sensors, pressure controllers, flow controllers.
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing: FFT, FIR, IIR. Must be well versed in communications protocols (SPI, I2C, EtherCAT, Ethernet, RS232), analog circuit design and analysis, schematic design, Strong PCB design skills including signal integrity, Orcad, Pspice, proper grounding techniques, EMI/EMC design and mitigation; as well as analysis/simulation tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, LabView.



  • Typical 12+ years of experience in embedded system architecture and design with multiple analog and digital I/O capabilities, FPGA, DSP & microcontroller based products.
  • BS or MS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.  Proficient in C/C++, MatLAB, LabView, Xilinx ZYNQ. Must be skilled in experimental prototyping test and measurement.
  • Must have experience working on QNX and developing board support packages (BSPs) for custom hardware.
  • Should have owned embedded solutions used in industrial applications, architected the SDLC processes used in development, and setup test automation infrastructure to enable release management.
  • The position requires excellent soft skills to be part of a cross functional team, excellent written & oral communication and presentation skills.
