Position Overview:

This position is part of the Global Supplier Management (GSM) organization.   Supply chain is critical to the success of Lam Research and we are looking for talent that will help continue our journey to becoming a world class supply chain.  In this position, you, as a strategic commodity manager, play a vital role in managing a supply chain commodity.  You will have the opportunity to own and drive overall strategy for a commodity for the company. 

Candidate should be a result-driven, self-starter possessing strong interpersonal skills with a strong focus on supporting internal customers’ needs for supplier development and supply continuity.  This individual should also possess the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, to adapt to changing priorities and to work independently in a close-knit team setting.

Primary Functions and Performance Objectives:

Plans, organizes and controls the business/contracts/negotiations for the strategic acquisition of materials and services of technical or contractual.  Will be a member of a cross-functional supplier management group responsible to analytically formulate and execute comprehensive supply management strategies with a focus on Availability, Cost, Responsiveness, and collaboration with Lam technical team.

  • Own and drive overall commodity strategy
  • Maintain well aligned sourcing strategies to drive critical parts sourcing w/ volume suppliers
  • Manage Lam working capital through lead time strategies including postponement, consignment, and inventory stocking strategies
  • Develop and maintain supplier core competencies to support local/global business requirements
  • Own and actively manage business and supply/ demand continuity plans
  • Manage supplier capacity plans and articulate constraints for long term planning
  • Negotiate contracts (purchase agreements, ISA’s, etc) and identify/ execute on pricing inflection points
  • Manage Lam liabilities at suppliers through claims and balance sheet review processes
  • Establish Rapid Part Manufacturing framework and strategies
  • Establish fair value through actively managing competitive tension
  • Develop and own execution of cost savings plans including make vs. buy decisions and alternate sourcing
  • Recommend supply chain development strategies for critical commodities/ technologies
  • Support/ improve supplier performance through supplier scorecard and QBR processes
  • Lead/ support cross-functional commodity management teams to ensure strategic and executional alignment
  • Represent supplier/commodity strategy shifts in the critical supplier review process
  • Serve as Team Leader for supplier Global Agreement negotiations, renegotiations and contract addendums.  Negotiates performance-based, preferred supplier agreements, to provide incentive for continuous supplier improvement.  Advises commodity team leader on strategic plans.
  • Defines metrics and monitor supplier performance against these expectations to ensure continuous supplier improvement.  Regularly evaluate quality and performance benchmarks, and the risks associated with the preferred supply base selection. 
  • Encourages and coordinates early supplier involvement in highly technical and/or contractually complex new products parts design using the suppliers’ expertise to optimize quality and manufacturability.
  • Works collaboratively to develop and apply a strategic commodity plan, in order to define a preferred supplier base for highly technical and/or contractually complex commodities. 
  • Maintains current knowledge on relevant trends by personal contact, industry reports, trade journals, etc.
  • Requires excellent analytical and written/oral communication skills with ability to communicate cross-functionally and with various levels of the organization including Executives

The role is that of an individual contributor who is a self- starter and able to operate independently of day to day supervision.This is not a senior level role, nor is it a people manager position.

  • Solid understanding of statistical process control and basic statistical analysis used in production setting
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly with minimal guidance
  • International & domestic travelling



  • Technical expertise -  engineering/science background
  • Project Management / Team Lead experience
  • At least 4 years of working in the Semiconductor Equipment Industry
  • Experience with working with global suppliers
  • Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Attentions to details  



  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited University necessary
  • Advanced degree (MBA) from accredited University preferred
