Strategic Development Manager 


The Corporate Strategic Development team is focused on providing broad, strategic vision for Lam, identifying and evaluating new growth initiatives, and supporting business units in the strategic planning process.  The group reports to the CEO of the company and is responsible M&A, strategic alliances, equity investments, and licensing, in addition to supporting the development of long term corporate strategy.


Reporting to the VP of the group, the Manager of Strategic Development directs and provides analysis, research, and solution development to aid executive leadership in setting the strategy for the corporation. This position will assist in long term planning for the company by conducting strategic analyses, with focus on in-depth understanding of stakeholder needs, competitor actions, environmental trends, and core competencies. We’re looking for candidates with structured problem-solving and communication skills who can operate in ambiguous environments. To be successful in this role, the manager would be familiar with strategy and management frameworks, financial analysis, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or business architecture. Typical projects span both classic strategy and business development (including M&A, joint ventures, etc.), and may include leading the initial stages of project execution


Skills/ Key Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Maintain ongoing strategic monitoring/assessment capabilities with respect to industry analysis, positioning, competitor analysis, strategic options, and strategic capability assessments.
  • Define and develop tools, models, and frameworks for conducting research and analysis, work with internal and external sources to collect relevant data, coordinate and execute required analysis, and develop appropriate communication to senior management
  • Manage a library of data sources and analyses supporting strategic issue resolution and decision making.  
  • Develop detailed quantitative and qualitative analyses and models to assess impact of strategic deals, operating plans, and competitor/market developments in order to advise the company on the potential impact of proposed strategic initiatives.
  • Create, write, and communicate briefings, presentations, and memos for senior management and interpret, analyze, and evaluate business plans, operating/financial plans, research reports, SEC filings,deal memos and proposals, etc
  • Lead market research and macroeconomic analysis to identify correlated leading marketing indicators related to business verticals and end markets outlook. Produce quarterly update.


Education and experience:


  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a top MBA program
  • Bachelors degree required, technical degree preferred
  • 3+ years of work experience in a technical role, preferably in semiconductors or semiconductor capital equipment
  • The successful candidate will be highly motivated, and possess vision, exceptional ability and enthusiasm.
  • An ideal candidate should have the ability to identify and define business questions and issues and develop strategic, analytical, and financial frameworks to conduct analysis.
  • The successful candidate will be a creative, out-of-the-box thinker who is intellectually curious with a demonstrated interest in continued learning. He/she will have excellent communication and presentation skills, the ability to make decisions quickly and effectively influence others, and a very high level of maturity.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate strong quantitative and qualitative analytical capabilities
  • Ability to work directly with senior executives and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Skilled at analyzing problems and arriving at clear decisions; able to distill information, gain clarity of ideas, synthesize, and then define next steps for execution
  • Bright individual, with ability to combine analytic reason, creativity, and judgment; quick study, able to handle complex matters with multiple initiatives; able to deal effectively with strategic issues, as well as operational details
