Supply Chain Business Manager



This position is part of the Global Supplier Management (GSM) organization. In this position, you, as a supplier business manager, play a vital role in the Advanced Chamber Materials supply chain commodity.  You will have the opportunity to work across organization functions to resolve delivery, cost, and production challenges, as well as opportunity to develop excellence in manufacturing Advanced Ceramic Materials, Coatings, & ESCs.


Candidate should be a result-driven, self-starter possessing strong interpersonal skills with a strong focus on supporting customers.  This individual should also possess the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, to adapt to changing priorities and to work independently in a close-knit team setting.


Primary Functions and Performance Objectives:


Plans, organizes and controls the business/contracts/negotiations for the strategic acquisition of materials and services of technical or contractual.  Will be a member of a cross-functional supplier management group responsible to analytically formulate and execute comprehensive supply management strategies with a focus on Availability, Cost, Responsiveness, and collaboration with Lam technical team.

  • Regularly meet with suppliers to ensure full support of Lam’s requirements; Availability, Cost, and Responsiveness.
  • Serve as Team Leader for most supplier Global Agreement negotiations, renegotiations and contract addendums.  Negotiates performance-based, preferred supplier agreements, to provide incentive for continuous supplier improvement.  Advises commodity team leader on strategic plans.
  • Defines metrics and monitor supplier performance against these expectations to ensure continuous supplier improvement.  Regularly evaluate quality and performance benchmarks, and the risks associated with the preferred supply base selection. 
  • Encourages and coordinates early supplier involvement in highly technical and/or contractually complex new products parts design using the suppliers’ expertise to optimize quality and manufacturability.
  • Works collaboratively to develop and apply a strategic commodity plan, in order to define a preferred supplier base for highly technical and/or contractually complex commodities. 
  • Develop Lam’s procurement and inventory control strategy (e.g., JIT, Kanban, min/max).  Leads Purchasing team to assist in the research, development, and implementation of solutions to supply issues.
  • Represents Procurement on a cross-functional strategic commodity team (CT) that focuses on strategic supply challenges, and to ensure internal/external customer needs are satisfied.
  • Maintains current knowledge on relevant trends by personal contact, industry reports, trade journals, etc.
  • Requires excellent analytical and written/oral communication skills with ability to communicate cross-functionally and with various levels of the organization including Executives

The role is that of an individual contributor who is a self- starter and able to operate independently of day to day supervision.




Must have:

  • Solid understanding of statistical process control and basic statistical analysis used in production setting
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly with minimal guidance
  • International & domestic travelling



  • Technical expertise -  engineering/science background
  • Project Management / Team Lead experience
  • At least 4 years of working in the Semiconductor Equipment Industry
  • Experience with working with global suppliers
  • Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Attentions to details



  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited University necessary
  • Advanced degree (MBA) from accredited University preferred
