Manufacturing Engineer - CZ

Essential Function:

Implements, evaluates, monitors, and improve processes related to single crystal silicon and multi-crystalline silicon materials.  Responsible for across-the-board processes including charge prep, growth, post run clean, inspection and data analysis. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the Company Quality Management System and apply Quality Procedures and Operating Procedures as appropriate
  • Apply lean manufacturing concepts and other problem solving tools to improve metrics such as turn time and yield
  • Evaluates existing crystal growth methods and sequences and recommends/implements improvements that increase efficiency, reduce cost, reduce waste, etc.
  • Evaluates and tests alternative products that improve Silfex’s technical manufacturing capabilities, resulting in throughput increase, cost reduction, and yield improvement
  • Participates in the Material Review Board (MRB) recommending alternate process configurations that result in the conservation of material
  • Sustains and improves single crystal and multi-crystal to silicon manufacturing methods to achieve customer specifications
  • Understands and can apply process control (SPC) and measurement systems analysis (MSA)
  • Creates and performs out of control action plans to maintain stable process inputs/outputs
  • Prepares reports/presentations by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Follow all company safety policies and report any unsafe conditions to Engineering Manager, EHS Manager, and/ or Director of Manufacturing
  • Perform tasks/duties related to special projects or assignments
  • Perform other duties as assigned by department management

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline, Master’s degree is preferred

  • 5+ years relevant experience in materials casting, single crystal growth or heat treatment. Silicon experience highly desired.

  • Lean/Six sigma green belt certification is strongly preferred

  • Experience in using complex documents, including specifications and drawings, to develop qualified processes and/or equipment for manufacturing processes

  • Proven record of solving problems by using structured methods in identifying root causes and multiple solutions

  • Experience using higher mathematical capabilities (algebra, trigonometry, geometry, statistics, etc.) to develop solutions to problems or prove concepts

  • Strong understanding of material properties (strength of materials, phase diagrams, alloy composition, etc.)

  • Experience in communicating difficult concepts to audiences ranging from operators to director level participants in writing and through presentation skills

  • Ability to utilize software such as Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ability to use Access, statistical software (Minitab, JMP)

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision

  • Must be able to analyze and solve complex problems

  • Must be able to work effectively individually and in a team environment with Maintenance, Operators, and Engineers

  • Must be able to pay close attention to details

  • Must be comfortable presenting & talking to various levels within the company as well as customers

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.  The noise level in the environment is moderate.
