Metryx, founded in 2000 and based in the Aztec West Business Park in Bristol, is a fast growing, hi-tech company in the semiconductor equipment industry and is now owned by the market leader Lam Research, a multi-billion dollar US company.

Our core technology, mass metrology for the semiconductor manufacturing industry, is used worldwide at major semiconductor chip companies to monitor and control the manufacturing sequence of leading edge semiconductor devices. Metryx has gained two Queen's Awards for Innovation and Enterprise, together with a host of industry awards for excellence.

We are looking to add an Electrical Engineer to our team. Reporting to the Engineering Director, this position offers the successful applicant the opportunity to be in the semiconductor equipment industry with an exciting growing company.


Primary Responsibilities:


•Responsible for executing Electrical Engineering technical disciplines with primary focus on the development and modification of Electrical hardware systems.

•Responsible for ensuring compliance to the various electrical standards applicable to the semiconductor industry: SEMI (S2, S8), NFPA79, NEC, UL etc

•Creation of electrical schematics and system interconnects based on requirements received from cross-disciplinary teams

•Create and release engineering drawings & bill of materials using Engineering Change Management process

•Well versed with Part life cycle management, Obsolescence management activities

•Study and recommend corrective solutions for technical issues of varying complexities.

•Provide accurate and timely resolution to design related production issues encountered during the build process of a semiconductor processing tool

•Conduct and drive Design review to get buy-in from all cross functional teams for new design concepts

•Be able to highlight technical risks and drive mitigation plans during project execution.



Mandatory Skills:


•Proficient in system level understanding of Electrical architecture, design of IO Controllers (preferably using PIC Microcontrollers)

•Good working knowledge in PCB/ Low voltage circuit design for control applications.

•Must have working knowledge of electrical engineering CAD tools, preferably Zuken E3 or equivalent CAD package


Desirable Skills:


•Experience with capital equipment or similar (for e.g., process industries, medical instrumentation, automotive, aircraft, etc.) industry in a sub-system / module design projects.

•Experience in working with cross-disciplinary teams (including mechanical, electro-mechanical, software, process, manufacturing engineers)

•Experience in selection of components, setting up equipment for experimentation / testing in laboratory environment, setting up safe practices.

•Experience with PIC Microcontrollers

•Experience in Embedded C Programming

•Working knowledge of industry standards:  SEMI (S2, S8), NFPA79, NEC, UL etc

•Knowledge in Engineering Change Management Process

•Project Management


•Educational qualification: Masters/ PhD in Electrical or Electronic Engineering

•Years of Experience:  Minimum 8 years of relevant experience


Semiconductor industry experience would be beneficial but is not essential. A capability to work within a small driven team, with personal drive to complete goals, inventive and willingness to make a difference is essential. The successful candidate will be able to communicate well technically across multiple disciplines. There will be a certain amount of travel required as well as an ability to work with the different needs and cultures of our international customer base.
