The Impact You’ll Make

We are seeking a strategic and technically skilled Director of Engineering to lead our engineering team and drive the development of cutting-edge semiconductor equipment solutions. In this role, you will be responsible for the direction, management, and execution of all engineering projects, ensuring alignment with our company’s vision and the rapidly evolving needs of the semiconductor industry.  Position is located in our Salzburg, Austria and specializes in the following:

 

Flat Panel Electroplating Systems: These systems are designed to deposit thin layers of metal onto flat panel substrates, ensuring uniformity and precision. You will work on enhancing the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of these systems to meet the evolving demands of the semiconductor industry. Substrate sizes can range from 300x300mm up to Gen 5.1 (1100 x 1300mm).

PR Strip and Cleaning Technologies: In addition to electroplating and cleaning, you will also work on photoresist (PR) strip and state-of-the-art cleaning technologies that ensure the removal of contaminants from flat panel surfaces.

What You’ll Do

Leadership & Strategy: Develop and implement the engineering roadmap in alignment with the company’s long-term goals. Provide technical direction and engineering leadership across multiple disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineering.

Project Management: Oversee the planning, prioritization, and execution of projects, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, operations, quality, and product management) to support project milestones and meet customer requirements.

Team Development: Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing engineering team. Drive recruitment, professional development, and career progression of team members to foster a culture of technical excellence and innovation.

Innovation & Technology Development: Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously advance the capabilities of our equipment. Champion R&D initiatives to maintain our competitive edge.

Customer Engagement: Work closely with sales, service, and product management teams to understand and respond to customer needs, integrating feedback into the design and development process. Build strong relationships with key customers to foster long-term partnerships.

Quality Assurance & Risk Management: Develop and enforce rigorous testing and validation protocols to ensure reliability, quality, and compliance with industry standards. Manage technical risks and create contingency plans to mitigate potential challenges.

Who We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field); Master’s degree or Ph.D. preferred.

• 10+ years of engineering experience in semiconductor capital equipment, with a proven track record of progressive leadership responsibilities.

• Strong technical knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes and equipment, with expertise in one or more relevant areas (e.g., deposition, etch, lithography, clean).

• Demonstrated experience leading complex, multi-disciplinary engineering teams in a high-paced, high-tech environment.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and customer-focused approach

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.

Employment in Austria

This position is subject to the Austrian Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for Employees in the Metal Technology Industry. A higher payment is negotiable depending on expertise, education, and skills. The monthly salary is paid 14 times per year.
