Responsibilities for the position we are seeking to fill include:

  • Negotiate, prepare and review complex commercial and intellectual property agreements with customers, collaborators and others
  • Provide strategic support and partnership to China regional management and operations in China and other jurisdictions as assigned, in support of company vision and other objectives
  • Provide local transactional support and partnership to China and other teams as assigned, and to operations and corporate function teams as needed
  • Contribute to developing and delivering training, communications, processes and procedures for providing effective and efficient legal support
  • Provide timely and effective legal advice on a wide variety of corporate and commercial legal issues, including but not limited to commercial law; employment; intellectual property; data security; data privacy; antitrust law; ethics and compliance; environmental, health and safety; and product safety
  • Provide timely general legal support to China and other Asian offices as assigned
  • Monitor and communicate legal developments in China, and follow up or escalate as applicable to ensure business has process to comply; monitor, communicate, and follow up on such developments in other Asian jurisdications as assigned
  • Participate in oversight of litigation, if any, and provide litigation or internal investigation support as needed
  • Coordinate with other legal teams to provide first line legal support, pursuant to legal department policies and identified rules of engagement for global legal services teams members to consult with, or to refer matters to, legal team with primary responsibility
  • Interpret and communicate to client groups requirements under identified company policies
  • Participate in identifying and supervising counsel for general legal affairs in China and other jurisdications as assigned
  • Domestic and international travel required

The successful candidate will:

  • Have excellent English oral and written communication skills, so that you can discuss and explain complex technical and legal matters with legal and non-legal business partners and create high quality documents; similar skills in Mandarin required; Korean and/or Japanese language strongly preferred
  • Be able to work successfully across time zones and cultures to support significant international operations and coordinate with remote resources
  • Partner successfully with other business groups to achieve corporate objectives
  • Successfully work and manage in a highly matrixed environment
  • Be adept at balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Work independently with limited supervision

  • J.D. or equivalent from a top law school 
  • China bar membership; California bar membership preferred
  • 8+ years of experience, including significant experience providing legal support for a multinational company from a remote location
  • Familiarity with Chinese commercial law and practices; Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese, or Indian would be a plus
  • Strong HR, contracts, antitrust, and ethics and compliance knowledge
  • Openness to possible relocation based on business need preferred
  • Background or experience in the semiconductor equipment and/or semiconductor industry is a plus
  • Technical or engineering background is a plus
  • Candidates of diverse backgrounds encouraged
