Pilot Operations is a flexible and creative organization that accelerates the delivery of new Lam tool capabilities into the hands of our customers. We are responsible for readying new products for volume manufacturing and for delivering them to customers at like-volume quality until they are ready to be built in Lam's volume factories.

Job Responsibilities


The primary responsibility of Lam’s Tualatin Pilot Operations Materials Director is to manage a team of materials program and project managers through all stages of product development from R&D to volume manufacturing to ensure PDR deliverables are completed with high quality and within programs timeline. We are seeking an ambitious leader who is flexible and resilient, who consistently grow the talent around them, are confident in managing risk, and who understand the rapid changing supply chain environment.


Job Duties


  • Lead in a cross functional team environment within a matrix organization with internal customers, including high level executives
  • Act as point of contact for all escalations from product group to supply chain, liaison between Engineering/ product management and supply chain functional organizations
  • Hire, train and manage Materials Program and Project Managers for NPI programs
  • Organizational and individual development of all direct reports within Lam’s performance management program
  • Ensure MPM team meets PDR deliverables
  • Develop cost reduction roadmaps in order to meet product cost targets
  • Work with Supply Chain on developing sourcing strategies and sourcing plans to meet cost and lead time targets
  • Ensure Volume transition deliverables (from Pilot to Volume) are completed thoroughly and on time
  • Project services management
  • Ensure performance meets on-time material deliveries to engineering need dates and drop-dead date for Pilot manufacturing



  • BS, MS, or PhD in an Engineering discipline
  • Ten+ years’ experience in Supply Chain or Materials Management or equivalent executive Operational leadership
  • Program management experience
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing methods and commodities related to cost structure
  • Supply chain knowledge of critical commodities in the semi-conductor/wafer fab equipment industry related to sourcing decisions and cost strategies
  • Post-Covid, willing and able to travel up to 15% (domestic and international)


Success in this role also requires skills, strategic thinking, and attention to details for everyday tactical execution; proven track record of excellent people and organizational development; demonstrated executive communication and presentation skills; comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty and possesses the ability to adapt nimbly and lead others through complex situations; and ability to effectively initiate and execute change with upstream and downstream partners.


Skills and abilities beneficial in this role include technical background, continuous improvement, and Lean Six Sigma experience.
