Are you intellectually curious?  Do you like learning how things are made?  Do you have a passion for improving processes to achieve greater control and reliability?  Do you like troubleshooting and driving to root cause and corrective actions?  If so, you should strongly consider an internship at Lam Research as an engineer in the global Supplier Engineering organization. Supplier Engineering is an organization that innovatives in manufacturing and engineering technology, materials, & supply chain design.  This position will provide you an opportunity to master the complexities and challenges of product engineering, process control, yield optimization, and troubleshooting for the many technologies used a variety of leading-edge Lam semiconductor equipment products.  

You will be working in an organization that works with Lam’s global supplier base to delivers superior product quality and services at the lowest total cost.

This candidate will be matrixed with a mentor who is responsible for performing professional engineering examination and evaluation of Lam’s suppliers in the areas of engineering (electrical, mechanical, chemical, materials), chemistry, and physics.  The ideal candidate will play an active role in assisting in managing projects and products relative to supplier manufacturing development, quality initiatives, supplier selection, problem solving as well as designing and conducting independent experiments and tests. Project management duties include working with cross-functional teams consisting of supply business management, engineering, manufacturing, field service and suppliers to provide feedback and requirements during new product development through to production release. Candidates need to exhibit excellent problem solving skills: defining the problem, identifying objectives, assessing risk, developing approach, analyzing results and providing recommendations. Ideal candidate will assist in directing and managing manufacturing process/quality implementation of required changes and modifications.

 

Successful candidates will play a supporting role in these activites:

  • Coordinate development activities with suppliers and product groups in developing new products and technologies required to meet the next generation challenges of our customers
  • Ensure suppliers’ manufacturing processes are in place to produce reliable products in a repeatable manner.  Develop and audit quality control systems. Develop and drive supplier improvement plans.
  • Manage suppliers’ analytical testing and engineering resources to perform failure analysis on products returned from the field.
  • Conduct effective supplier visits in evaluating and managing new and existing suppliers
  • Design and execute an experiment, review data, develop conclusions
  • Implement industry standard process control techniques such as six sigma techniques to manage and develop production efficiencies and quality for Lam products

  

Education & Experience:

 

  • In good academic standing at a college or university, enrolled for the following semester or quarter and pursuing a B.S., M.S., MBA, or Ph.D. in engineering, science -  a technical field listed in (but not limited to) the following: IE, ME, ChE, Chemistry, Mat Sci, Polymer Science.
  • Basic understanding of materials properties, measurement techniques and methods to characterize polymer materials.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft software – Excel, Word, and PowerPoint – is required.
  • Working knowledge of SPC programs such as Minitab and JMP is preferred
  • Ability to complete projects on schedule and find root cause on escalations and deliver corrective actions in a timely fashion.
  • Strong / excellent problem solving skills, project management skills, multi tasking ability to manage a number of projects with high variety and  oral/written communication skills.
