Electrical Engineer Job Description
The Electrical Engineer will develop discipline specific engineering designs and develops drawings, specifications, and scope of work documents for the construction of new R&D Lab facilities, new process equipment installations, and existing facility system alterations. Reviews and estimates design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, and other related costs. Inspects construction and installation progress for conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules. Coordinates with architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings. Develops criteria and performance specifications required to meet unique operating requirements and building and safety codes. Leads the discipline specific systems operations and maintenance activities to ensure safe and efficient operation. Plans facilities changes for plant, office, and production equipment layouts, working toward economy of operation, maximum use of facilities and equipment, and compliance with laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Technical lead for design, construction, commissioning, system acceptance testing, and operations of critical facilities electrical systems including but not limited to utility power, emergency power, UPS power, generators/ATS, lighting, grounding etc.
- Responsible for assuring proper maintenance is performed (active participation in coordination efforts) and records are properly evaluated and followed up to assure highest reliability possible.
- Using EasyPower software, generate and evaluate power coordination studies, arc fault analysis and short circuit calculations.
- Responsible for tracking, monitoring, reporting on capacity from the service level to branch circuit panels ensuring adequate capacity is available to support business growth based upon forecasts and prior usage rates.
- Manage and approve all electrical circuit modifications and ensure contractor installations reflect internal documentation.
- Participate in both facilities’ capital and tool installation design reviews ensuring outsourced design firms design to established Lam protocols and expectations.
- Identify infrastructure improvements which drive operating costs down, and/or support a more robust electrical integrity enhancing business uptime.
- Manage and report on expense and capital budgets in support electrical engineering expense and management.
- Develop, maintain, and update technical and construction specifications for electrical equipment and materials of construction.
- Active participation in review and approval of Site Incident Prevention Program (SIPP) requests which enable active construction/maintenance activities on site, while preventing negative business impacts.
- Flexibility to travel periodically both foreign and domestic.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in the field of Electrical Engineering with a focus in Power Analysis, Power Systems and Power Distribution, OR, Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience in the field of Electrical Engineering with a focus in Power Analysis, Power Systems and Power Distribution.
- Eight (8) years of experience in a similar role.
- Professional Engineering License or EIT certification desired.
- Strong working knowledge of Easy Power modeling software and experience sustaining an active model for ~1-20MVA site.
- Strong knowledge of NFPA/NEC & NETA requirements and experience leveraging documents in design and maintenance settings.
- Well experience in advanced electrical troubleshooting skills and strong knowledge with design and maintenance of variable speed drive systems.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, and ability to interact with customers efficiently.
- Strong “solution provider mindset” with ability to drive solutions for our customers when challenges arise.
