Job Responsibilities
- Interface with manufacturing and design engineering in coordinating the release of new products
- Review new designs for manufacturability and make recommendations to design engineering on manufacturability improvements (DFMA, Serviceability, Safety, Ergonomics, and Modularity)
- Estimate manufacturing costs and determine time standards; make recommendations for fixturing and process requirements of new product lines
- Develop, implement and maintains methods, operation sequence, and processes in the manufacturing of sub-assemblies and final assemblies
- Make recommendations for outsourcing vs building in house of sub-assemblies
- Work with outside suppliers on outsourcing activities
- Maintain records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations
- Work closely with Design Engineering to close issues found during manufacturing of new products
- Design and procure manufacturing fixtures
- Perform Virtual Builds using 3D CAD models to determine product manufacturability including BOM validation, determine proper build sequence, labor hour estimation, DMFA, tooling, and fixtures assessment
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering with 1+ year of related experience, or an advanced degree with no experience
- Experience/familiarity with some of the following:
- Lean Manufacturing Design for Manufacture Assembly (DMFA)
- Computer Aided Design (CAD)
- Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
- Make vs. buys analysis
- Root cause and corrective action investigation and/or nonconforming material disposition
- Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems experience
Other skills and abilities beneficial to this role include outstanding analytical, verbal, and written communication skills; familiarity with lean manufacturing methodologies as they apply to Low volume/high mix products.
