Job Responsibilities

General Position Summary:
Intern Assembler will navigate computer-based work instructions to install parts and hardware using hand tools and fixtures if needed; on wafer fabrication equipment (WFE) in a Lean manufacturing clean-room environment. They will also prepare technical reports, summarize finding and recommend solutions. Working hours will be no less than 24 hours a week and is dependent on current enrollment in the Portland Community College (PCC) Microelectronics Program. Work schedule will not conflict with Class schedule for PCC Microelectronics Program.


Job Scope:

  • Effectively use hand tools, torque wrenches, equipment and fixtures to assembly WFE
  • Read and navigate work instructions and schematics
  • Work in teams to ensure workflow and production schedule is maintained
  • Provide flexibility and responsiveness for changing priorities including rework requirements and pilot build projects
  • Complete required trainings and certifications for processes, procedures, and equipment
  • Ensures the correct parts were delivered and performs visual inspection of components prior to installation 
  • Assists with audits through visual inspection and verifying checklists
  • Closes assigned tasks by verifying work as completed, verify Cell Fusion was completed, and signing off and giving a description of what was done
  • Installs parts and hardware correctly by following Cell Fusion instructions and using hand tools and fixtures if needed
     

Safety Protocol:

  • Complete all required safety training 
  • Follow safe work practices by lifting no more than 35 pounds, using ergonomic pads, stretching when needed
  • Adhere to personal and product safety guidelines by:
  • Utilizing appropriate PPE
  • Following clean room procedures
  • Following Lockout Tagout policies and procedures (LOTO & ZEST)
  • Utilizing fixtures (lift hoist, lift track, gantry cranes, lifting tools) to aid in the assembly of tools
  • Perform Risk management by walking around (RMBWA) inspections and document, correct and/or escalate safety issues/hazards to appropriate individuals/departments
  • Supports safe work environment by responding directly and quickly to unsafe practices; escalates to next level manager (safety representative, lead, supervisor, manager) and escalates any unresolved issues (incorrect use of hoist, poor placement of tools/cords/ladders, etc.., not using cones or barriers, PPE misuse)
     

Communication:

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Provides information and responds in a timely manner to supervisors and co-workers by telephone/written form/e-mail/in person
  • Actively participates in meetings and training
  • Identify and communicate production issues both verbally and in writing
  • Suggests continuous improvements by communicating verbally/in writing to appropriate groups/locations
  • Communicates verbally and written system status during shift pass-down

Specific Job Skills:

  • Able to utilize computer-based data systems and applications
  • Able to navigate and uses Microsoft Office software — (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)
  • Able to operate and use Hand Tools including but not limited to: Calipers, Circuit tester, Wrenches, Hoists, Ohm meters, Screwdrivers, Torque wrenches, Ladders/platforms, Snipping tools/cutters
  • Understands continuous improvement
  • Lean Six Sigma White Belt trained
  • Attention to detail
  • Flexible, able to easily adapt to change
  • Proactive and takes initiative

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of mechanical or related assembly experience
  • Currently enrolled in the PCC Microelectronics Program

Physical Requirements:
NOTE: Physical requirements are dependent on products manufactured which differ by site.
Tualatin:

  • Work 12-plus hour shifts in fast paced and time-sensitive environment and must be able to: 
  • Lift and install parts up to 35 pounds manually.
  • Perform tasks with a working height of 22” from the ground
  • Kneel, crouch, and squat frequently.
  • Use manual tools (box wrench, cable tie cutters, etc.)
  • Reach into machines constantly.
  • Scale 10 step ladder comfortably.

Job Conditions:

  • Must be able to: 
  • Work 12-plus hour shifts in fast paced and time-sensitive environment.
  • Distinguish between colors for wire identification
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace 
  • Provide flexibility and responsiveness for changing priorities including but not limited to rework, overtime and potential limited travel to other Lam/customer facilities
