Job Responsibilities

Mechanical Engineer 3 - Deposition NSR (Non-standard Requests)

We have an exciting opportunity in our Customer Service Business Group (CSBG) as part of our Mechanical Engineering (ME) team. Mechanical Engineering provides engineering support for Etch, Deposition and Clean legacy and production systems, as well as the MEMS/Deep Si etch product lines. You will perform Engineering work to fulfill customer requirements for Non-Standard Systems (NSR’s). These are customized systems, that cannot be fulfilled by configurable options using the Product Option Architecture (POA) tool. This will involve working in a matrix environment, interfacing with Engineering, Manufacturing, Product Management, Business Development, Field, etc. The ME team is a high-energy group working on a wide variety of new and legacy products, figuring out how to improve the performance of our existing installed systems. The ideal individual will have strong physics/engineering fundamentals, working in the semiconductor industry, combined with CAD solid modeling and “real world” hands on mechanical design experience.  Experience working in a large global matrix structure as well as an entrepreneurial spirit is highly desired.  You will be working on a wide range of products, from 150mm to 300mm wafer size, consisting of a mix of new, refurbished or existing designs. As an NSR Mechanical Engineer, you may need to Design and analyze mechanical systems, conduct feasibility studies, and test new / modified designs. You yourself or through support personnel must be able to develop detailed designs and drawings, work with vendors to fabricate prototypes, perform testing, and complete quality analysis.

  • Ability to act in their area of expertise and peer to a well-qualified team is highly desired, including actively participating in design reviews, reviewing and providing feedback on others work including presentations, drawings and models, and communicating ideas and results to other engineers and management.
  • Provide Engineering quotation for Non-Standard Request (NSR) System upgrades opportunities.
  • Able to scope NSR through scoping review meeting for module conversion projects, (impacting SW, EE, ME)
  • Review and approve changes to product configuration through Engineering Change Requests
  • Provide technical solution to obsolescence issues and analyze impact of obsolescence on various product configurations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Mechanical Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5+ years, or a Mechanical Master’s degree with a minimum of 3+ years experience, in the semiconductor capital equipment or related industries.

Preferred Qualifications

  • This is not a job for new graduates. Hands-on experimental experience is required.
  • Extremely knowledgeable using 3D CAD tools such as Creo, NX, etc. is required.
  • Develop, design, & understand critical mechanical systems that will include vacuum process chambers, vacuum exhaust systems, gas and/or liquid chemical delivery, pedestals, showerhead, controls in temperature and pressure.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and working experience in plasma deposition reactors to deposit thin films on silicon wafers. Design experiences in ICP/CCP plasma sources is required.
  • Skills in Excel, SAP, PLM Systems, BOM Management Systems, Access, QuickBase, Matlab, etc. is a big plus.
