The Impact You’ll Make

As a Mechanical Engineer at Lam, you're designing and defining cutting-edge mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Your role involves feasibility studies, testing, and guiding teams in detailed design and fabrication. You provide the crucial design information needed to shape our technology's packaging.

In this role, you will directly contribute to the Deposition Group.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead conceptualization, modeling, analysis, documentation, and test/validation of semiconductor chamber hardware.
  • Lead design of complex subassemblies including aligning technical requirements and defining sub-tasks for electrical and software engineering.
  • Design parts using metals, ceramics, quartz, and plastics; often incorporating advanced coating/plating. Conduct detailed computational analysis to gain insight into the performance of the design.
  • Assist in technical decision-making process by analyzing and comparing multiple possible solution paths and providing technical recommendations.
  • Prepare and review 2D drawings for piece parts and sub-assemblies. Implement principles of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing to communicate engineering requirements to suppliers.
  • Conduct manufacturability analysis and work with potential suppliers to develop processes to ensure parts can be manufactured in accordance with performance and cost objectives.
  • Develop and execute test plans that generate characterization data to understand and validate the performance of the design.
  • Develop and present reports/presentations that communicate design intent, analysis, and validation.
  • Demonstrate a high level of ownership managing timelines and deliverables for one’s projects. Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure hardware designs meet overall product objectives.
  • Lead structured troubleshooting and problem solving of non-conforming parts and assemblies, perform failure analysis and implement solutions to prevent recurrence of issue.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.

Who We’re Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or a master’s degree with 5 years’ experience; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent experience.
  • 3D CAD experience (ProE/Creo, NX, SolidWorks, or Inventor) is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency with modeling and assemblies in PTC CREO CAD system.
  • Proficient with thermal and structural analysis (Ansys or COMSOL is a plus).
  • Experience with CFD flow simulation for gas flow in vacuum systems.
  • Hands on, passionate about hardware development.
  • Experience with BOM management, engineering change management and product lifecycle management.
  • Experience leading and managing projects and multiple priorities.
