The Impact You’ll Make

As a Mechanical Engineer at Lam, you're designing and defining cutting-edge mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Your role involves feasibility studies, testing, and guiding teams in detailed design and fabrication. You provide the crucial design information needed to shape our technology's packaging.

In this role, you will directly contribute to the Deposition Group.

What You’ll Do

  • Be a key member of a small team of engineers developing globally enabling technologies
  • Accountable for a full design lifecycle of new and updated hardware components and sub-systems
  • Analyze and map physical solution spaces for new reactor components
  • Translate operational needs into hardware requirements
  • Generate, detail, document and test new or iteratively improved designs for large numbers of hardware components such as electrical enclosures, reactor components, gas delivery systems, and cooling systems
  • Seek out and develop creative hardware solutions to intricate physical challenges
  • Develop and use test protocols, test stands, and DOEs to validate design performance
  • Periodically execute validation testing hands-on: install, test, break and analyze
  • Work with directly with suppliers to develop and employ advanced fabrication methods for new designs
  • Rely on peers for expertise on historical design spaces, and develop expertise for new design conundrums
  • Drive failure root cause investigations and resulting corrective or preventive actions
  • Follow and validate compliance of parts and assemblies with industry design standards
  • Generate thorough documentation to support installation, troubleshooting, and future learnings for newly generated designs
  • Support manufacturing and build through generation and maintenance Bill of Materials (BOM) documentation
  • Utilize a wide number of tools to prioritize competing projects and requirements

Who We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 12+ years of experience; or Master’s degree with 8+ years’ experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Desire for self-guided learning and research - ability to seek out and understand past design iterations, decisions, and learnings
  • Very high proficiency with industry standard 3D CAD tools - ProE/Creo, NX, Solidworks, Autodesk Fusion, or Onshape
  • Fundamental knowledge of material science aspects of mechanical design: material strength, degradation mechanisms
  • Proficient in design analysis in multiple domains: structural mechanics, heat transfer, fluids analysis
  • Understanding of common fabrication and assembly methods - machining, casting, additive manufacturing, welding, assembly sequences
  • Structured problem solving skills - lead ideation efforts for iterative and clean-sheet designs
  • Experience in managing engineering projects, deadline planning and execution
  • Good communication skills - understand and communicate complicated engineering problems and solutions to a wide range of audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Semiconductor industry experience is not required, but a plus
  • Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) toolkits such as Ansys, COMSOL, or similar
  • Familiarity with programming instrumentation and controls - C/C++, Python, or Labview
  • High proficiency with GD&T concepts and ASME Y14.5
  • Prior mentorship experience in supervising junior engineers or colleagues
