The Group You’ll Be A Part Of
In the Global Products Group, we are dedicated to excellence in the design and engineering of Lam's etch and deposition products. We drive innovation to ensure our cutting-edge solutions are helping to solve the biggest challenges in the semiconductor industry.
The Impact You'll Make
Wet Equipment and Technology Solutions (WETS) is an exciting, rapidly evolving field as the semiconductor industry’s dependence on wafer-level packaging solutions continues to grow with consumer needs such as artificial intelligence (AI) and super-computing. WETS Engineering has newly formed the Plating Process Critical team for Sabre and Sabre 3D electroplating product lines. The team is responsible for some of the most critical hardware with the closest proximity to the wafer and largest impact on plating performance. The team’s vision is to partner with the process engineering group more closely than ever to deliver world-class hardware solutions for our customers. The team is seeking someone with a passion for engineering, strong analytical skills, and attention to detail in a challenging and collaborative environment.
What You’ll Do
Primary responsibilities are to lead key projects within the Sabre 3D plating cell module along with engineering CIP for both Sabre and Sabre 3D clamshells. The projects are expected to be complex in nature and may often be directly tied to customer escalations. Hardware developments within the plating cell are highly critical and will strongly impact process performance, thus new designs or problem statements will be expected to see a high degree of scrutiny. The engineer will be the team’s lead contributor involved on resolving these complex issues and developing technology advancements, often requiring invention for a particular product feature.
The engineer will need to work collaboratively with a wide variety of people to be effective in this position, including process engineering, key account technologists, product management, product support, and all aspects of supplier management. The engineer will work on significant challenges and unique issues where analysis requires an evaluation of intangibles in a space where another expert is not available. Thus, strong independence and decision-making skills are a necessity. The engineer should also be able to work in a matrixed organization getting assignments from a variety of groups and teaming with other engineers and managers to accomplish goals. The engineer should skillfully handle disruptions and obstacles, making steady progress despite unexpected challenges.
Who We’re Looking For
Minimum Qualifications:
- 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or 5 years with a PhD.
- Exercises good judgement in mechanical design methods and evaluation criteria.
- Takes initiative to advance projects with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Experience teaming with process engineering to actively contribute to resolving process-related problem statements and to provide technical guidance in evaluating hardware solutions.
- Experience directing, influencing and collaborating with suppliers to strengthen alignment and/or improve outcomes for Lam and Lam’s customers.
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills, especially in defining the problem, gathering and analyzing evidence, and evaluating solution options.
- Organizes projects that are large in scope and/or with nebulous problem statements by leading conceptualization, development, execution, and testing phases.
- Involvement in developing, mentoring, or coaching others.
- Skillful using 3D CAD tools, preferably Creo and/or NX.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Sabre and Sabre 3D product line and/or the fundamentals of electroplating and the semiconductor industry at large.
- Expert knowledge of Design for Manufacturability, especially for metal machining, plastics machining, elastomeric seals, and coating commodities.
- Invents hardware solutions that improve performance with cutting edge approaches.
- Strong understanding of statistics and variability to ensure long-term part reliability.
- Evaluates new concepts quickly and efficiently - “fast fail or succeed” and learn correct lessons from the fast fails.
- Able to perform computational modeling, mainly for structural mechanics and fluid dynamics.
