 Position Summary:

Acts as the functional quality leader directing the development and implementation of activities in the production area(s) to meet quality goals within a cross-matrixed and global organization.

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Ensures the voice of the factory on quality is accurately and consistently represented within the region and factory.  Program manages execution, quality of investigations, and RCCA’s to cycle time objectives.  Possesses analytical capability to identify trends and patterns in quality data to drive required improvement.  Drives activities and resources to respond to the customer on quality resolution and requests.  Empowered to identify, recommend, and drive preventative actions within their respective function.  Works as part of the global functional quality manager team to improve processes and share BKMs to improve results.  Holds the factory teams and the quality program leaders accountable for delivering on quality objectives through the establishment of effective accountability systems.  Strategic thinking focused to increase productivity through support and leadership of people, process, and technology while building for the future of manufacturing.  Delegates work as necessary to remain strategic even during ramp up or busy times.  May plan or administer budgetary recommendations, control group level expenditures, and indirect labor staffing levels.  Manages, coaches, and mentors team members. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operations of the function and to create a high performing team.  Exemplifies Lam Core Values and demonstrates Manager Competencies.  Adheres and holds other accountable to safety regulations.
 

Job Complexity:

Independently resolves most manufacturing operations issues (customer requirements, all input variables to process, facilities issues, technical problems) within set operation parameters, proactively engaging Supply Chain senior leaders as needed to escalate, or revisit based on changing business requirements. Develop the productivity improvement strategy and workforce planning required to meet future workload demands. Maintain and improve factory processes and operating systems for the manufacture of wafer fabrication equipment including production efficiency, waste reduction, cycle times, capacity, manufacturing and design capabilities and others as needed. Maintains in process quality control systems to ensure product quality. Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends.  Follows processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.  Acts as advisor to subordinate(s) to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems. Develops and administers schedules, performance requirements; may have budget responsibilities.
 

Interaction:

Works closely with production and support teams as required to evaluate results to improve processes.

Partner with Product Engineering and New Product Introduction groups to help improve design for manufacturing ability and in corporate mistake proofing. Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers and the company. Often must lead a cooperative effort among members of a project team.

 

Management Role:

Leads team to implement Lean, Six-Sigma, 8D, and other problem-solving methods, operation sequences and processes to reliably produce complex semiconductor capital equipment systems, and their sub-assemblies, in a repeatable manner. Directly supervises employees and performs other managerial responsibilities within the employee lifecycle. Provides clear expectations and regular feedback specific to performance management, focuses on employee development through 1:1s and group discussions, coaches for performance and applies disciplinary action or recognition as needed. Encourages team work by modeling and follow through with positive communication/feedback and problem-solving behaviors while honoring Lam's core values. Communicates for understanding or action and adjust communication based on when and how it’s needed, and the level needed (such as down or across organization). Holds team accountable to demonstrating Lam Core Values. Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Provides guidance to subordinates within the latitude of established company policies and to meet compliance requirements. Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization(s).  Manages the coordination of the activities for a team with responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years of related management experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent work experience.
  • Operations management experience required
  • Six Sigma (Black Belt) is strongly preferred
  • Previous experience in the high-tech industry preferred

 

Specific Job Skills:

  • Knowledge of industrial / manufacturing processes, human factor, organizational behavior
  • Basic understanding of design principles and processes
  • Experienced in problem statement creation and root cause determination (5Why/Ishikawa)
  • Knowledge of basic manufacturing and advanced (preferred) manufacturing methodologies and assembly processes with vacuum systems specifically fittings and connections
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and Kanban a must
  • Database software, Microsoft Office Suite, Enterprise Systems
  • Provide adequate resources needed for team/org, manage budgets, ensure that support materials are available
  • Effective problem solving and learning mindset, strong decision maker
  • Strong verbal, written communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage complex processes and projects, work under tight time constraints and effectively work in a cross-matrixed environment
  • Bias for action, both tactical and strategic

Physical Requirements:

Must be capable of working within a controlled clean room environment and adhering to all specified gown and personal protective equipment requirements.
