The Impact You’ll Make

As a Systems Engineer at Lam, you will transform challenges and opportunities in the semiconductor industry into cutting edge equipment that enables breakthroughs in the next generation of microprocessors, memory, power, signal, and practically all semiconductor chips.  Developing these tools requires coordinating a highly interdisciplinary set of requirements amongst several specialized teams in areas such as chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software development, mechatronics, solid state physics, materials science, RF engineering, AI/EI (equipment intelligence), plasma physics, to name a few. 

What You’ll Do

  • Your role involves transforming customer needs into system definitions and architecture based on analysis and modeling both individually and as part of a team of multidisciplinary subject matter experts. 
  • You will generate system architectures and guiding design documentation. 
  • Systems engineers at Lam are responsible for: 
    • Creating the requirements  
    • Coordinating modeling or simulation of key design principles and concepts 
    • Architectural design options and down selection to preferred approach(es)  
    • High level product structure  
    • System level design documentation 
    • Reliability analysis 
    • Gap and risk analysis of proposed solutions 
    • Test plans and coordinating test execution for verifying designs and validating tool performance. 
  • Once realized, you will participate in verifying the design and validating that it meets the customer’s needs. 
  • Lam will train successful candidates in systems engineering practice in our industry, in basic film deposition technology, in basic semiconductor device concepts and physics, in manufacturing technology for building our equipment, basic 3D CAD proficiency, and in relevant engineering disciplines pertaining to the specific equipment you will help design and test. 
  •  Systems engineers are also responsible for creating new business processes for improving systems engineering as well as improving existing systems engineering processes. 

Who We’re Looking For

  • BS/MS or planned graduation by 6/25 in one of the following disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Software Engineering, Systems (Industrial) Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field. 
  • High degree of intellectual curiosity to learn and assimilate a lot of information from other technical disciplines. 
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal, and technical presentation skills.  
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minor or secondary major in the disciplines mentioned above.  
  • 3D CAD proficiency is a plus, as is basic understanding of simulation programs for analyzing gas flow, heat transfer, or basic physics.  
  • Experience with industrial equipment design, thin film deposition, semiconductor processes, vacuum technology, materials analysis is also a plus. 
  • Coding skills in Python, C++ or Java.
