The Pilot Operations Organization at Lam Research is seeking an Engineering Technical Writer 3 to join the Test Engineering team at our Tualatin campus.  Pilot Test Engineering is responsible for testing and validating new state-of-the-art products as they transition from the design phase to high volume manufacturing.

The Technical Writer 3 will be a key contributor towards the team’s vision of developing efficient test systems supporting modular testing through advanced software-based automation and innovative test hardware design.


 Job Description:

  • Develop efficient test procedures based on understanding of products and functionality, working in close association with the test engineers.
  • Key contributor to the test schedule of assigned new products through on-time delivery of test procedures within tight development schedules
  • Interface with engineering and manufacturing teams on upcoming products reviewing impact on testing
  • Ensure all technical content conforms to company documentation and quality assurance standards
  • Support test engineers in developing software scripting that efficiently integrates the UUT (Unit-Under Test) and the test fixtures
  • Develops strong working relationships within team. Leverages synergy with engineering support functions

A successful candidate will demonstrate;

  • Understanding and experience with semiconductor equipment testing with focus on equipment functionality and functional troubleshooting (such as Thermal & Gas-Flow characteristics, RF engineering, Electrical systems, Instrumentation & Controls).
  • Strong background in technical writing and development of engineering procedures
  • Ability to assess test implications based on new functionality and change content
  • Ability to leverage functional documentation (electrical schematics, control logic, gas flow paths) toward development of test protocol
  • Skills in software scripting towards automated testing and characterization are preferred
  • Has sound understanding/demonstration of measurement techniques, instruments
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills


Associates Degree in engineering discipline with 4 years of below experience.  Bachelor's Degree with 2 years of below experience.

Equipment Testing in an Engineering Technician Role.
