The Impact You’ll Make
As Director, Counsel at Lam Research, you will play a critical role in overseeing and managing the company's legal compliance and regulatory affairs in the EMEA region. Your expertise will ensure that the company navigates complex regulatory landscapes effectively, mitigates risks, and supports strategic business initiatives. You will be a key partner to the regional senior leadership, providing legal insights and recommendations that will influence the company's growth and operational integrity.
What You’ll Do
- Drive the Ethics & Compliance program in EMEA coordinating effective implementation of compliance policies, procedures (including third party due diligence), training and communications, internal investigations, and other initiatives
- Be the lead counsel globally for data privacy and competition/antitrust, and support other compliance activities related to environmental/sustainability, government contracting, and other regulation such as AI and other emerging technology.
- Define and advise on compliance strategy with data privacy and antitrust/competition laws and regulations globally, including data protection officer duties and supporting continuous improvement of risk management programs together with other functions.
- Support for compliance with environmental/sustainability requirements in EMEA, including providing legal guidance on disclosure and reporting obligations, risk management, and regulatory activities.
- Support for government funding and contracting opportunities in EMEA, including providing legal guidance on grant funding, compliance with pre and post-award obligations, and compliance with applicable government contracting regulations.
- Support for other legal activities in EMEA as needed.
- Monitor legal trends, regulatory changes, and industry developments to identify emerging risks and opportunities, and recommend appropriate actions.
- Be a trusted advisor and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including other legal teams, sales, operations, product groups, and R&D, to drive alignment and support the achievement of business goals.
- Lead as a member of a high-performing legal team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professional development, while supporting and executing Legal department initiatives.
The position will report to the Chief Compliance Officer with dotted line reporting to the EMEA general counsel. It can be based in any of our offices in Europe.
Who We’re Looking For
- Law degree and admitted to practice law in Europe
- 12-15 years of progressive experience as an attorney, with at least 8 years focused on regulatory counseling, compliance, and risk management and an expert-level understanding of global privacy and antitrust laws.
- Significant experience counseling clients in connection with environmental/sustainability initiatives and commercial transactions including government incentives and/or public contracting
- Proven track record of handling complex legal matters, working across functions and time-zones in a matrixed environment, and providing strategic legal advice that drives business success.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative orientation and the ability to effectively work with and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience (either in private practice or in-house) with the semiconductor industry or representing multi-national high-tech manufacturers. Prior experience with a Fortune 500 company would also a plus.
- A mix of prior litigation, transactional and regulatory counseling experience, including but not limited to governmental investigations, commercial litigation, and/or contract drafting and negotiation.
- Proficiency in legal research tools, contract management software, and compliance systems.
- Strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities, curiosity and desire to learn/expand skillset, and a bias toward action.
What We're Offering
This position will be occupied in Villach. It is subject to the Austrian Collective Bargaining Agreement for Employees in the Metal Technology Industry in occupation group I depending on educational background. A higher payment is negotiable depending on expertise and skills. The monthly salary is paid 14 times per year.
