Computational Science Software Engineering Intern - Summer 2025
Waltham, MA, US
The Group You’ll Be A Part Of
Our team in Waltham, MA builds the modeling capabilities of the well-established SEMulator3D® software product. SEMulator3D® is part of the Semiverse™ Solutions initiative at Lam Research to create a software ecosystem that can tackle the semiconductor industry’s greatest challenges.
The Impact You’ll Make
Excited to create new ways to computationally model physical phenomena? And then code it all the way from prototype to production? Our team designs and implements algorithms for simulating the physical phenomena that play a crucial role in the fabrication of cutting-edge nanoscale semiconductor devices. Your work will have a direct impact on how our partners and customers fabricate highly complex nanoscale 3D structures for today’s semiconductor devices.
Who We’re Looking For
This is a hands-on software position requiring expertise in numerical methods, physical modeling, and proficiency in C++. Interns must be studying at the Masters or PhD level. As an intern you will have an opportunity not only to explore the best method to model a cutting-edge phenomenon, but also code it into a production-quality software product. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates who enjoy scientific software itself.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or MS candidate in computational science, engineering, applied mathematics, or physics related to 3D modeling, simulation, scientific computing, or semiconductors
- Experience in modern C++ programming and software engineering
- Experience with the implementation of atomistic simulation methods such as molecular dynamics, direct-simulation Monte Carlo, or particle-in-a-cell methods (or clear aptitude or background to learn)
- Team player who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys modeling a wide array of physical phenomena.
- Excellent communication skills in English, ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts
Our Commitment
We believe it is important for every person to feel valued, included, and empowered to achieve their full potential. By bringing unique individuals and viewpoints together, we achieve extraordinary results.
